Palmetto State Baseball team of the week, March 18-24: Winthrop

Winthrop (went 4-0 for the week)
(beat The Citadel; went 3-0 at Longwood)

Winthrop's early season record see-sawed just over and under the .500 mark for the first few weeks of the season. Granted, a weekend series sweep -- including a 28-6 loss -- at traditional powerhouse Florida didn't do much to build positive numbers.

But as the Big South Conference portion of the schedule rolled around, coach Tom Riginos' Eagles have found their stride.

Sunday's 10-3 win at Longwood completed Winthrop's second straight conference sweep and improved their winning streak to eight games. The Eagles had 21 hits on Sunday, improving the season batting average to .297

The Eagles' next action is at home Tuesday night against Furman.
