Player of the day: Devin Tallington, Claflin, 2-for-7, BB, SB, GW 2-run single

Claflin scored all six runs in its final at-bat - capped by Devin Tallington's walk-off two-run single - to edge Philander Smith in its final game of the Willie Mays HBCU Invitational. The result snapped a 33-game losing streak dating to last March 4.

Panthers' starter Xavier Campbell allowed two runs in the first inning but put up four shutout frames after that, finishing with 10 strikeouts.

Philander Smith drove Campbell from the game during a three-run sixth, putting coach Jaylan Bledsoe's Panthers down by five runs.

Anthony Hardy drew a leadoff walk, stole second and took third on a wild pitch. Christian Hill followed with an RBI single. Michael Morales singled and Tyler Gilbert's infield bunt single loaded the bases.

A wild pitch cut the deficit to 5-2, and Abel Jimenez walked to reload the bases.  Xavier Terrell singled to make the score 5-3 and a balk gave the Panthers their fourth run.

One out later, Tallington delivered the game-winner to left field, scoring Jimenez and Terrell.

The Panthers (1-2) were held to three hits in a loss to Stillman earlier in the day. Devyn Campbell had a double and four stolen bases for Claflin.

Elsewhere: CJ Dean and Jan Pospisil had three hits apiece as North Greenville (3-0) completed an unbeaten run through the Houston Winter Invitational. Pospisil drove in four runs and Dean added three for the Trailblazers.
