Team of the week, March 30-April 5: North Greenville

North Greenville (went 4-0)
(beat Lander; went 3-0 vs. Young Harris)

What a difference a weekend makes.

North Greenville went into this weekend series against Young Harris two games back of the Mountain Lions in the Conference Carolinas standings. Anything short of a sweep and coach Landon Powell's Trailblazers would still be looking up at Young Harris in the standings with only three weeks (nine games) of conference play remaining.

So, NGU did exactly what was needed to take over first place: win all three games.

Every win was accomplished by scoring in North Greenville's final inning. CJ Dean capped a Friday comeback with an eighth-inning home run.

The Trailblazers topped that with a pair of extra-inning walk-off wins - both completed by pinch-hitters - on Saturday.  Jan Pospisil's sacrifice fly plated Kason Herlong in the ninth inning of Game 1 and Joe Cash knocked in Lane McGaha in the 11th inning of the second game.

There's still work to be done and little margin for error. Francis Marion, Belmont Abbey and Young Harris are a game back in second place, so three teams are in position to take advantage if North Greenville should stumble.

Up next: Anderson, at Fluor Field in Greenville 6:30 p.m. Tuesday
