Scott Wingo, South Carolina 137 putouts, 245 assists, 11 errors in 69 games (68 starts). He participated in 65 double plays and his glove work in Omaha was a major reason the Gamecocks won the National Championship.

SHORTSTOP
Adam Gliebe, Winthop 79 putouts, 177 assists, 11 errors in 57 games (55 starts).
Peter Mooney, South Carolina 97 putouts, 188 assists, 14 errors in 69 games (all starts). After making seven errors in his first 18 games, Mooney made just seven of his final 51 during USC's title run.

TWO-WAY
Will Lamb, Clemson 153 putouts, 8 assists, 0 errors in 59 games as pitcher and outfielder.

UTILITY
Robert Beary, South Carolina 266 putouts, 22 assists, 2 errors in 65 games (60 starts). His versatility (catcher, third base, left field, right field) helped the Gamecocks get through a series of mid-season injuries.

One interesting note from my defensive research: USC outfielder Jake Williams had one assist all season: the one to nail a Florida runner at home plate in Game 1 of the College World Series championship series and keep the game tied.
