Towson decision delayed

The president of Towson University has delayed a final decision on the fate of the school's baseball and men's soccer programs. In October, Towson's athletic department had recommended to its president that the Colonial Athletic Association school drop the sports for financial reasons.

I had posted this item Oct. 3 but hadn't thought of it again - I wasn't in CAA mode - until a reader commented on a post regarding College of Charleston's just-announced move to the CAA for the 2013-14 school year.

The decision was to have been made in November.

Cut

Delay

A group has started a Web site, SaveTowsonUBaseball.com, to try to muster support for the program.

Towson had a 27-31 record last season. The baseball program's only NCAA Division I Tournament appearances were in 1988 and 1991 when it was a member of the East Coast Conference.

Towson's baseball stadium is named for Atlanta Braves President John Scheurholz. He played baseball and soccer at the Maryland school.
