Furman University has officially announced the signing of nine baseball players for the 2013 freshman class.
Right-handed pitcher Matthew Quarles of Emerald is the only South Carolina resident.
Coach Ron Smith has again dipped into the Cincinnati area, signing catcher Cam Whitehead from Moeller High.
Other players are from Georgia, Florida, Maryland, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.
Smith will be in its 20th season as Furman coach in 2013.
