Benedict coach Selwyn Young: Stay strong, stay healthy, be competitive play every play hard like it is your last one and never quit. Be excellent teammates and put God first in their lives and become a productive citizen in our fast paced society. Treat others like you want to be treated. RESPECT THE GAME and your fellow man , woman and child. Hustle on and off the field and show good sportsmanship always. Respect the other team ,fans and officials but never ever fear the other team. Fear God and do things right. If we do all these things we will have a great 2014 baseball season.

PSB: What are your biggest areas of concern entering the 2014 season?
SY: We are a sophomore and freshman dominate squad. I need to find out how they will greet the cha0llenge to move on to the next level and become a competitive team. We have 11 new players.

PSB: In what areas does your team appear to be improved from the 2013 season?
SY: We have more pitching depth  and pitching options .Although their young, we have a group of advanced hitters and we are really fast again. The “Amazing Base Stealing Machine” is well equipped with bats  speed , pitching options and a more experienced  fundamentally sound  defense.

PSB: Based on fall workouts, which returners from  2013 (including redshirts) look best prepared to play a bigger role in 2014.

SY:
We return All-SIAC second baseman Kevin Davis , who led the NCAA in steals, steals per game and runs per game.He may move over to shortstop. Senior outfielder Elisha McDaniel hit over .350 and stole 39 bases. Utility men Daniel Young and Lashante Grimes also hit over .350 and will be called upon to continue their solid roles. Pitchers, Yaniel Delgado, Christopher Lail, Macartha Thompson and Angel Perez all improved.Redshirts infielder Mitchell Dixon ,Catcher Marcelino Irizarry, outfielders Keith Booker and Andre Collum also had good fall workouts. Lail and Thompson will get the chance to also hit this year. They both did great in a duel role of pitching and hitting.

PSB: Based on fall workouts, which newcomers are most likely to contend for major roles in 2014?

SY: Pitchers Darius Thompson and James Roman had great fall workouts and will be called upon to contribute immediately.
