Palmetto State Baseball team of the week, March 29-April 4: Erskine

Erskine (4-0 for the week)
(swept King)

Erskine entered the week in a little bit of a slump, having lost four of its last five games in Conference Carolinas play. But coach Mark Crocco's squad found the mountain setting in east Tennessee to their liking, sweeping King University.

Whether slugfests (two games were 12-6) or pitchers' duels (Landon Dennis won a 1-0 shutout), the Flying Fleet were up to the challenge.

For the season, Erskine has been more proficient at hitting (.327 team batting average) than pitching (6.45 team ERA). The Fleet hit .352 with 20 extra-base hits over the weekend. It was accomplished while top hitter Livan Reinoso went 2-for-14. Even with those numbers, Reinoso leads with team with a .474 batting average, 12 homers and 36 RBIs.

Up next for the Flying Fleet:  A Friday home conference doubleheader with Chowan.
