Palmetto State Baseball team of the week, April 5-11: Newberry

Newberry (6-0 for the week)
(went 2-0 vs. Mars Hill; went 4-0 vs. Lincoln Memorial)

It's been somewhat of a rollercoaster ride for the Wolves this season. They upended national top 5 team North Greenville early, lost much of the month of March to COVID-19 related issues, and a week ago suffered a series loss to a Limestone squad beneath them in the South Atlantic Conference standings.

But the Wolves are at a high spot right now. A sweep of Lincoln Memorial over the weekend has coach Russell Triplett's team on a seven-game winning streak - all in conference play.

The Wolves are tied for third, two games behind first-place Catawba entering the final weekend of the season.

Jack Harris is Newberry's leading hitter (.391), and has been in the midst of the late surge. The grad student from Watsonville, Calif., was 6-for-15 with 6 RBIs against Lincoln Memorial and is batting .452 during a current eight-game hitting streak.

Triplett, a former Clemson standout, has led Newberry to nine consecutive winning seasons and, according some figured derived from his biographical information on Newberry's athletics Website, got his 300th career victory in Game 2 of Tuesday's sweep of Mars Hill.

Up next for the Wolves  A four-game league series at Lenoir-Rhyne next Saturday and Sunday.
