Elliot Carney came within an out of his second no-hitter in 22 days in Game 2 of Wofford's sweep of The Citadel. Carney, who no-hit UNC Greensboro April 17, allowed only a fifth-inning hit batsman entering the ninth.

After two groundouts opened the inning, Jeffery Brown hit a bouncer to second base. Shane Lussier fielded and threw a one-hopper to John Dempsey at first base. Brown was called safe in a bang-bang play, to what to be bemused disappointment - but not indignation - from the Terriers defense.

Another groundout ended the game, sending The Citadel to a 12th straight loss for the second time this season. Wofford trails first-place Mercer in the Southern Conference Red Division by percentage points.

Wofford rallied from a 10-3 deficit after three innings in Game 1, taking the lead on Trey Yunger's two-run single in the eighth scored the wining run.

*  At Lexington, Scott McDonough singled, doubled and drove in two runs as Florence-Darlington Tech advanced to Monday's championship game of the NJCAA Region 10 Tournament with a win over Louisburg in the winners' bracket. The Stingers will play Spartanburg Methodist which survived a pair of elimination games wrapped around the FD Tech win. Myles Daniels pitched a four-hit shutout and struck out nine as Spartanburg Methodist eliminated USC Sumter in the morning. The Pioneers rallied from a 4-0 deficit to oust Louisburg in the second game.
