Gamecocks lose Williams
In his radio call-in show last night, South Carolina coach Mark Kingston reported right-handed pitcher Ricky Williams will miss this season with an arm injury.Kingston also reported first baseman/outfielder Jacob Compton is in a back brace and will be sidelined for a few weeks.
Williams, a junior from Lexington, was one of three players to transfer from Carolina after last season. He had a 2-0 record and 2.95 ERA in 21 1/3 innings. Compton is a junior transfer from Memphis, where he hit 11 home runs in 2022.
The Gamecocks open their season at home Friday against UMass Lowell.
