Palmetto State Baseball team of the week, March 6-12: USC Aiken

USC Aiken (5-0 for the week)
(beat Coker; beat Francis Marion; went 3-0 vs. Flagler)

Last season the Pacers suffered their first losing season since 1999. Coach Michael Holder has his squad way back on the positive side of the ledger at 17-5 before the halfway point of the season. That includes the current eight-game winning streak and a 9-0 start in Peach Belt Conference play.

Pitching has been a major factor in the success. A 3.67 staff ERA is outstanding. Jacob Fletcher (4-0), who pitched a shutout on Saturday, has a 2.53 ERA. Closer Dylan Wilhelm  has six saves and a0 0.77 ERA.

Offensively, Josh Sharp is hitting .333. Jackson Hannon (.318) has driven in 24 runs. The Pacers have stolen 50 bases, led by James Eckert's 11-for-11.

USC Aiken holds a half-game lead over Columbus State in the Peach Belt. The Pacers and Cougars meet for three games next weekend in Columbus.

Up next for the Pacers: at home against Newberry.
