I always like checking out stats to find tidbits. Here are a few.

* Benedict has a .318 team batting average and has stolen 136 bases in 22 games.  Taj Bates has a .426 batting average and .902 slugging percentage. Unfortunately, opponents and hitting .326 and the Tigers' staff ERA is 10.40.

* Bob Jones has a .225 team batting average, compared to a .336 mark by opponents.

* Claflin has a .201 team batting average while opponents are hitting .380. The Panthers have been outscored 365-67 in going 0-28, with DeShante Carraway having Claflin's only home run. The staff ERA is 13.13, with walks outnumbering strikeouts, 222-114.

* Clemson pitchers have struck out 289 hitters in 258 1/3 innings. Caden Grice has a 1-1 record and 3.79 ERA in five starts. He has struck out 29 in 19 innings. Offensively, Grice is hitting.337 with a team-high seven homers.  Freshman Cam Canarella has hit batting average back up to .417 and leads the team with 16 stolen bases. Opponents have outhomered Clemson, 43-26, in 29 games.

* Coastal Carolina is batting .330 as a team, with Peyton Eeles (.394) leading the way. He also has a .536 on-base percentage. The Chanticleers have a 6.31 ERA, but that's way below the 9.06 of opponents. Darin Horn has a 5.34 ERA, but has struck out 47 in 28 2/3 innings. Opponents have struck out 276 times in 224 innings.

* William Privette of College of Charleston has a 1.08 ERA and a .151 opponents' batting average, He has struck out 34 in 25 innings.

* Erskine has hit 60 home runs in 33 games including 12 by Dale Francis Jr. and 11 by Christian Rivera. Francis is batting .424. Johnny Hummel has a 1.64 EDRA and has struck out 42 in 22 innings.

* Florence-Darlington Tech has a.331 team batting average and has stolen 117 bases in 132 attempts. Seven players are in double figures. Spenser Hamblen has an 8-0 record and 2.45 ERA, but that's second to Garrick Murray (2.23) among starters.

* Freshman Will McClellan leads Lander with 11 doubles, 5 homers and 34 RBI. He also shares the lead in triples with 2.

* Newberry's .347 team batting average is bolstered by Braylin Marine (.465) and Donovan Ford (.450). Marine has 54 RBI and 29 stolen bases. Ford has scored 63 runs and stolen 32 bases.The Wolves are averaging 10 runs scored per game.

* North Greenville is averaging almost 11 hits per game.

* Tanner Smith of Presbyterian has a 0.95 ERA and five saves covering 19 innings over 12 appearances. Opponents are batting .179.

* Dariyan Pendergrass of Spartanburg Methodist has 36 stolen bases. There are no caught stealings listed. Blake Martin has played in 26 of 36 games, but has a .527 batting average. Ryan Williamson (.419), Hunter Fryzowicz (.409) and Rhogue Wallace (.400,  9 HR, 39 RBI) are major contributors to a .340 team batting average. Pioneers pitchers are striking out 10.56 batters per nine innings.

* One game into the second half of the regular season, South Carolina has 72 home runs, 14 more than it had in 55 games last season.  The Gamecocks have been hit by 70 pitches. Carolina batters have struck out 277 times in 235 2/3 innings. USC pitchers have struck out 294 in 251 innings. Fourteen pitchers are averaging a strikeout or more per inning.

* Five USC Lancaster players share the team lead with three home runs. Eddie Olmeda has a team-hit 26 RBI and has stolen 21 bases in 23 tries. Kyle Markowitz (18), Justin Seat (11) and Chandler Smithart (10) have yet to be caught steals this season. Brandon Langley has a 1.00 ERA, a win and 4 saves and 26 strikeouts in 18 innings.

* Trent Turner of USC Union is hitting. .471. Jarrett Whitley has a team-high seven home runs.

* Wofford is 82-of-107 in stolen bases this season. Ryan Galanie leads the team in the triple-crown categories with a .451 batting average, 9 homers and 32 RBI. David Wiley has four of the team's five triples.
