Newberry headlines SAC awards

Regular-season champ Newberry had three players named first team all-conference and took three individual awards in the South Atlantic Conference awards announced Friday.

Wolves shortstop Braylin Marine repeated as player of the years. Pitcher Bennett Roemer was named freshman of the year and Russell Triplett was voted coach of the year. Roemer joined Marine and outfielder Donovan Ford as Newberry's first-team selections.

Wingate standout Mitch Farris was named pitcher of year. Catawba's Austin Fine, a USC Sumter product, was a first-team pitcher selection.

Pitcher Tyler Chinpire of Newberry and designated Kody Hanna of Coker earned second-team honors Third baseman Jonathan Velez of Newberry. catcher Carlos Hernandez of Anderson and pitcher Marty Neal of Limestone were named third-team all-SAC. Neal was not on the original release from the conference.

Ford, Velez, Jolly and teammate Kade Faircloth were all-defensive team choices.
