Palmetto State Baseball team of the week, April 10-16: USC Union

USC Union (3-3 for the week)
(went 1-1 vs. Montreat JV; went 2-2 vs. FD Tech)

Why did I dare give this award to a team that went .500 for the week?

Simple. Coach Micah Stancil's team did something no other Division I team in NJCAA Region 10 has been able to do this season.

Twice.

In one day.

The Bantams took a pair of 5-4 victories over Florence-Darlington Tech on Sunday in Jonesville. Game 1 snapped a 17-game region winning streak for the Stingers, as well as a 17-game winning streak overall. FD Tech was unbeaten in the region before Sunday.

Trent Turner homered in each game and three pitchers combined on a one-hitter in the nightcap.  The sweep also allowed Gaston College to pull within 1 1/2 games of FD Tech entering next weekend's four-game series to end the region schedule.

Up next for the Bantams:  Limestone JV, Monday.
