Will Sanders struck out 10 in six innings and No. 6 South Carolina feasted on wildness by Florida relievers to run-rule the No. 3 Gators to open an SEC series.
Ethan Petry had three hits - including his 19th homer - and drove in three runs, while Michael Braswell doubled three times for the Gamecocks (32-6, 11-4).
With the game tied at 3-3 in sixth inning, Braswell had a two-out double. Florida (31-8, 11-5) changed pitchers, but two relievers combined to walk the next five batters to put USC up 6-3. Petry followed with a two-run single.
In the seventh, Braswell had an RBI double, Will Tippett's sacrifice bunt was misplayed into a two-run error and Cole Messina ended the game with a two-run double, sending most in a sellout crowd of 8,242 home happy.
Carolina third baseman Talmadge LeCroy is expected to miss the series as he recovers from a hamstring injury suffered Tuesday against Charleston Southern.
Game 2 is at 7 p.m. Friday.
