Dissa and data, May 15

(I've thrown in a few tidbits from outside the state, too.)

* Charleston Southern coach Marc McMillan continues to make liberal use of his roster. Sixteen position players have started 13 games or more ... Evan Truitt has made just four starts in his 13 appearances but the leads the Buccaneers with 61 1/1 innings pitched, 15 1/3 more than closest teammate Kaleb Hill.

* Clemson:
Billy Amick went 11-for-20 (.550) in four games last week with 4 doubles, 2 homers, 9 RBI and 7 runs scored. Amick has 4 homers and 14 homers in his last 7 games ... Cooper Ingle had his 19-game hitting streak snapped at Coastal Carolina last week, but hit safely in all three games at Virginia Tech and has now reached base in 46 consecutive games ... Will Taylor is 16-for-29 (.552) during his eight-game hitting streak.

* Coastal Carolina: Reliever Teddy Sharkey has allowed one earned run over his last seven appearances covering 18 1/3 innings. He has struck out 32 in that span. For the season, Sharkey has a 2.29 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 39 1/3 innings ... Nick Lucky had a career-high five hits in the finale and finished the weekend 8-for-15 at South Alabama ... Derek Bender (8-for-16), Caden Bodine (6-for-12) and Payton Eeles (7-for-14) all hit .500 last weekend. Bender had three homers and eight RBI last week ... The Chanticleers hit .364 for the trip to Mobile.

* College of Charleston: Trotter Harlan had a two-homer game for the second consecutive weekend ... William Privette has nine saves this season and 21 for his career, fourth on the school's leaders list ... Khyree Miller had his fourth three-hit game of the season and second in as many weekends.

* Florence-Darlington Tech: The Stingers fell a win short of the NJCAA World Series, but still had a fine season. Their 50 wins set a school record and the 17-game winning streak tied the school mark.

* Florida State: The Seminoles will miss the ACC Tournament and won't be in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1977, ending a record-tying streak of 44 consecutive seasons (COVID claimed the 2020 postseason). How long ago was that? Elvis Presley was still alive.

* Georgia never got the final out in any of the three losses at Missouri, losing via walk-off every game. Game 1 was halted by the SEC run rule when the Tigers' lead reached 10.

* Mercer: Eric Toth, a transfer from Presbyterian, is batting .328 with 14 homers and 43 RBI for the Bears.

* Newberry: Donovan Ford was 8-for-13 in the Wolves' three losses to Tampa, which on Sunday was named top seed for the NCAA Division II South Regional.

* North Greenville: According to the NCAA Division II selection show on Sunday night, the Crusaders have the most wins against teams with winning records of any Division II team ... John Michael Faile needs one home run to become Division II's career home runs leader. He has 75.

* Pennsylvania: The Quakers' pitching staff held South Carolina's offense pretty much in check despite getting swept the second weekend of the season.  Penn  has gone 29-11 since then and has won the Ivy League's regular-season. The Quakers play Columbia in a best-of-three playoff for the league's automatic spot in the NCAA playoffs.

* Presbyterian: Duncan Howard has gone at least five innings in all 13 starts this season ... Ryan Ouzts has a seven-game hitting streak ... The Blue Hose play at Alabama State on Tuesday. The Hornets' 10-game winning streak is tied for the longest active streak in Division I. Their last loss was a 6-2 setback at PC April 25.

* South Carolina: Gamecocks batters have struck out more times than opponents (508-494) while walking twice as many times (316-158) as the other team. Batters are striking out 30.2 percent of the time ... Eli Jones' 10 strikeouts in five innings at Arkansas on Friday eclipsed his previous high of six.

* Southern Wesleyan: Cam Mitchem hit 10 home runs this season, the first time a Warrior has reached double figures since 2018.

* The Citadel: The Bulldogs' five home runs in the Sunday finale at Western Carolina were the most since hitting six against Charleston Southern exactly 10 years earlier, May 14, 2013. The Citadel has had 5 five-homer games  and 3 six-homer games all-time ... Sawyer Reeves' homer  on Sunday was his fourth of the season and third to lead off a game. That ties Austin Mapes' 2015 record of three leadoff homers ... Reeves was 7-for-15 with 6 runs, 6 RBI, 2 doubles and 2 homers against the Catamounts.

* USC Upstate: Jace Rinehart has homered four times in his last five games and is on a 16-game hitting streak ... Easton Cullison has a program-NCAA Division I record 23 stolen bases and is five behind all-time leader Chris Leach's 28 steals in 1987, pre-Division I.

* Winthrop: Ricky Teel has a seven-game hitting streak, going 16-for-35 (.457) in that span. He came off the bench Sunday for the first time all season and went 4-for-4 ... McKinley Erves has a six-game hitting streak with runs scored and six RBI ... Reliever Jonathan Bookbinder hasn't allowed an earned run in his last four appearances covering 9 1/3 innings.

*Wofford: While the Terriers suffered a sweep against Mercer, the games were tight and competitive. There were 13 ties or lead changes as an inning concluded in the three games ... The Bears outhomered the Terriers, 11-4 ... Ryan Galanie has a seven-game hitting streak, going 9-for-29, but dropping his batting average to .416 ... Trey Yunger extended his hitting streak to nine and has driven in nine runs in that span, seven coming in the Mercer series. He is hitting .441 (15-for-34) during the streak.
