11 state D2 players all-region; Wolves' Marine, Triplett honored
Five players from North Greenville, four from Erskine and one apiece from Newberry and USC Aiken were named first-team all-Southeast Region NCAA Division II by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association.
Newberry shortstop Braylin Marine was named player of the year and the Wolves' Russell Triplett was voted coach of the year.
North Greenville's first-teamers were catcher John Michael Faile, outfielders Marek Chlup and Pat Monteith, utility player David Lewis and starting pitcher Reece Fields.
First baseman Dale Francis Jr., second baseman Ashby Smith, DH Christian Rivera and reliever Johnny Hummel were selected from Erskine. Newberry's Marine and USC Aiken reliever Dylan Wilhelm were the other first-teamers from state schools.
The second included two from North Greenville (shortstop Jalen Vasquez and reliever Michael Rodriguez) and two from Newberry (outfielder Donovan Ford, starter Bennett Roemer).
