North Greenville, Newberry to host Division II Southeast Regionals

Defending national champion North Greenville and Newberry have been selected to host portions of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional beginning Thursday. The selections were announced Sunday night at the NCAA selection show.

North Greenville, the regular-season champion of Conference Carolinas, is the top seed in the Southeast and will host a three-team regional at Tigerville. Conference Carolinas Tournament champ Mount Olive is the fourth seed in the Southeast and will play Peach Belt Conference champ Georgia Southwestern, the fifth seed. North Greenville has a first-round bye.

At Newberry, the second seeded Wolves meet No. 7 UNC Pembroke, an at-large team from Conference Carolinas in a four-team regional. Newberry won the South Atlantic Conference's regular-season and tournament championships. No. 3 Belmont Abbey of Conference Carolinas will face No. 6 Columbus State of the Peach Belt Conference.

The winners of the Newberry and Tigerville events will play a best-of-three Super Regional for a berth in the Division II World Series in Cary, N.C.

Among the teams failing to receive bids were Francis Marion, USC Aiken, Wingate and Young Harris. Four regional teams are from Conference Carolinas, three from the Peach Belt and one from the South Atlantic Conference.
