Briefly: Riley Bertram had four of Clemson's 20 hits and the Tigers used an eight-run fifth inning to throttle Virginia Tech in the opener of an ACC road series. Billy Amick had two doubles and a single and Cam Cannarella doubled and homered to drive in four runs for the Tigers, who had six two-out hits in the big inning ... Eli Jones struck out 10 in 5 innings, but South Carolina's offense struggled in the series opener at Arkansas, its fourth straight SEC loss and fifth straight overall ... College of Charleston surrendered the lead in the top of the sixth, but took it back in the bottom of the inning and held on to tighten the CAA standings ... Payton Eeles' 10th-inning single lifted Coastal Carolina past South Alabama in the opener of a Sun Belt Conference road series ... Carter Sanford's ninth-inning grand slam lifted Mercer past Wofford in the opener of a key SoCon series ...  USC Upstate kept pace with first-place Campbell by holding off Charleston Southern in the opener of a Big South Conference series ... Nicholas Badillo's ninth-inning single capped a late rally as Winthrop extended its Big South Conference winning streak to eight ... Tampa rallied in the late innings of Game 2 to complete a doubleheader and series sweep of Newberry in a meeting of ranked NCAA Division II teams ... Former Furman  player Jordan Starkes, given new life in the 13th inning when a potential third strike was dropped, reached on a two-out infield dribbler  and teammate Jack Spyke scored from second base on the play as Western Carolina took Game 1 against The Citadel ...

* Florence-Darlington Tech 6, Harford 5, 11 innings
- Dylan Johnson led off the 11th with a double, Will Dorrell singled him in and the Stingers overtook Harford to move to a second-round game against host Gaston College at  11 a.m. Saturday. FD Tech's first three runs scored on wild pitches, but Harford rallied for a 5-3 lead. Tech tied the score in the sixth and Davis Aiken pitched five shutout innings to keep the score at 5-4.  Johnson, Rio Foster and Rom Kellis had three hits apiece.
