Petry is freshman of the year

Outfielder Ethan Petry of South Carolina was named freshman of the year by PerfectGame.org. He also was named to the Website's freshman all-American team.

Teammate Cole Messina was named second-team all-American catcher, with Clemson's Caden Grice named to the second team as a utility player/pitcher. Clemson's Billy Amick was third-team DH and Coastal Carolina's Teddy Sharkey was third-team relief pitcher.

Joining Petry on the freshman all-American first team was Clemson outfielder Cam Cannarella,  Catcher Caden Bodine of Coastal Carolinas was second-team freshman all-American.

Writers honor state players

Billy Amick and Caden Grice of Clemson and Ethan Petry of South Carolina were named first-team all-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Cole Messina of South Carolina, Derek Bender and Teddy Sharkey of Coastal Carolina and Cole Mathis of College of Charleston were second-team selections. Matt Hogan of Oral Roberts, a transfer from USC, was a third-team pick.

State players on USA tryout list

Cam Cannarella and Austin Gordon of Clemson and Ethan Petry of South Carolina have been invited to tryouts for the USA Collegiate National Team.

I haven't been able to find a complete list of invitees, so there may be other state players involved. The team will play a series of exhibition games later this summer.
