Lander 5, Belmont Abbey 4
The Bearcats' bullpen pitched 5 2/3 shutout innings and the offense responded with a five-run comeback to move to 4-0.

Belmont Abbey scored an unearned run in the third and Justin Herrera's two-run doubled capped a three-run fourth for host Crusaders.

Lander tied the game in the sixth. Chandler Moeller and Taichi Nakao had back-to-back doubled to cut the deficit to 4-3, and a balk allowed Nakao to score the tying run later in the inning.

In the Bearcats' seventh, Ethan Wilder, went to second when Will McClellan was hit by a pitch and alertly took third on Connor Droze's flyout to right. Moeller followed with another flyball to right field to score Wilder.

Belmont Abbey couldn't crack the Lander relievers despite loading the bases in the seventh and getting two on in the ninth.

Honorable mention game of the day

Coker 3, Mount Olive 2

The Cobras scored the go-ahead run on a bases-loaded passed ball in the seventh inning and went on to beat No. 20 Mount Olive in  Hartsville.   Four Coker pitchers combined to hold the visiting Trojans to five hits.

 

Elsewhere: USC Union pitchers struck out 21 batters in a doubleheader sweep. Four Bantams combined for a one-hit shutout in the nightcap. Tyler Strickland had four hits - including a homer - and drove in five runs  ... Dale Francis Jr. singled and homered to drive in four runs as Erskine pulled away to its first victory of the season ... Anderson scored the go-ahead run on a bases-loaded passed ball in the eighth inning and added four unearned runs in the ninth to put away Southern Wesleyan ... Morris opened its home schedule with a split against NCAA Division II Morehouse, rallying from a five-run deficit in Game 2. Freddie Smith drove in three runs and Tijawan Smith added two RBI for the Hornets (2-2).
