How state NCAA DI teams stack up in conference races after Saturday

A look at where state NCAA Division I teams are in their conference standings after Saturday's games. All records are in conference games.

*  ACC: A second straight loss to Wake Forest (14-12) trimmed Clemson's lead over Florida State (14-10) in the Atlantic Division to two games. Clemson is 17-9. The Seminoles trailed Saturday's game at Pitt, 6-3, when it was suspended until Sunday by weather issues. N.C. State (14-11) trails Clemson by 2 1/2 games. Louisville (13-13) is four back. Clemson dropped two games behind Coastal Division leader North Carolina (19-7) in the race for the top overall seed.

* Big South: First-place Presbyterian (15-6) saw its lead over High Point (14-6) pared to a half-game when the Panthers beat Winthrop. USC Upstate (15-8) completes it conference schedule on Sunday and must win to maintain its longshot hopes of finishing first. Charleston Southern (10-10) and UNC Asheville (10-10) are tied the final spot in the tournament with four games remaining for both teams.  Winthrop (6-13) has avoiding last place as an incentive.

* CAA: Saturday's win by College of Charleston (17-5) over Northeastern (15-8), coupled with a win for Hofstra over first-place UNCW (18-6), pulled the Cougars back within a half-game of first place with four games remaining for both teams. A win over Northeastern on Sunday would assure the College of no worse than the second seed for for the conference tournament..

* SEC: Even with being swept at home by Georgia (16-11), South Carolina (13-14) backed into an official conference tournament slot when Missouri (8-18) lost to Auburn (5-21). USC can finish no higher than fourth in the East Division (Georgia would win a tiebreaker for third), but could be caught or passed by Florida and Vanderbilt (both 11-15). Next up for Carolina is Tennessee (19-7), which shares first place in the East with Kentucky.  The Gamecocks are in seventh place overall, but there is a possibility of finishing as high as six or as low as 11th.

* Southern: With Saturday's loss to East Tennessee State, Wofford (9-7) was officially eliminated from the regular-season title race and fell into fifth place, a half-game behind Western Carolina (10-7). First-place Samford (13-4) is percentage points ahead of UNCG (14-6), with ETSU (13-7) lurking close behind. The Citadel (1-17) is assured of eighth place.

* Sun Belt: First-place Louisiana (20-6) clinched a series win over Georgia Southern and maintained a three-game lead over Southern Miss and Troy (both 17-9). Coastal Carolina (12-13) moved into seventh place and likely would have to win out for a chance at finishing higher. Four teams behind the Chants have a chance at catching or passing them.
