Messina wins Johnny Bench Award

South Carolina's Cole Messina on Tuesday was named winner of the 2024 Johnny Bench Award as the top catcher in NCAA baseball. The Award is named for the Cincinnati Reds' Hall of Fame catcher.

Messina, a Summerville native, batted .326 with 21 homers and 71 RBI for the Gamecocks in 2024. He will receive his award July 30 at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati.
