Voorhees gets conference home

Voorhees' baseball team now has a conference home with the formation of the HBCU Athletic Conference effective July 1. The new NAIA conference was born from the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference.

In recent seasons the Tigers had been affiliated with the Continental Athletic Conference, a conglomeration of independent schools with no structured schedule setup. Eleven of the 13 teams in the HBCUAC sponsor baseball.

Other conferences adjust

* Oklahoma and Texas officially became members of the Southeastern Conference on July 1.

* SMU officially became a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. California and Stanford will join in August.

*  Shorter officially became a member of Conference Carolinas.

Pioneers go NAIA

Spartanburg Methodist officially becomes a member of the NAIA as it transitions to a four-year school. The Pioneers will compete in the Continental Athletic Conference.
