Bakich rewarded

Clemson coach Erik Bakich had a new contract approved by the Board of Trustees Compensation Committee on Thursday.

Bakich took the Tigers to the NCAA Super Regional round in his second year at the school.

Baseball assistants Jimmy Belanger and Nick Schnabel also received new contracts.

More baseball scholarships precdicted

Yahoo! Sports is reporting SEC commissioner Greg Sankey has confirmed that the new roster limit for college baseball teams will likely be in the "mid-30s." Additionally, schools may be able to give more than the current 11.7 scholarships for baseball based on how a scholarship is defined. Teams would not be required to give additional scholarships.

Charleston Southern hires McGuire

Kirby McGuire has been named an assistant coach at Charleston Southern, completing the staff for first-year coach Karl Kuhn. McGuire served as hitting coach at Ohio for the past three years.

Appalachian Athletic Conference to add Pioneers

Spartanburg Methodist, which is transitioning from two-year to four-year status, has been approved as a full member of the NAIA's Appalachian Athletic Conference effective with the 2025-26 school year.

The league's Council of Presidents voted unanimously in the July 14 meeting to approve SMC for membership.

Columbia College and Columbia International are other South Carolina schools in the AAC. The conference has 16 full members in six states and 14 affiliate members to give the league affiliate members in three other states.

SMC teams will compete in the Continental Athletic Conference in 2024-25. The CAC is a grouping of NAIA teams to provide schedule opportunities for teams.

Pioneers honored

Spartanburg Methodist's baseball team was one of six squads at the school honored with NJCAA academic teams of the year awards.
