Swig & Swine Classic begins Friday

Baseball fans in Charleston are blessed with three NCAA Division 1 teams to choose from, and all three are at home for a second straight weekend.

But the Swig & Swine Classic at Shipyard Park provides even more options this weekend.  Ball State, George Mason, Merrimack and Seton Hall are playing in the three-day event.

Ball State is coached by Rich Maloney, who played for the Southern League Greenville Braves during his minor-league career. His son Alex is one of his assistant coaches.

Rob Sheppard is coach at Seton Hall. His father, Mike Sheppard Sr., won 998 games at the school and coached future major leaguer Rick Cerone when the Pirates played South Carolina in the 1975 College World Series.
