In case you missed it

* Spartanburg Methodist will retire the No. 11 jersey of former coach Tim Wallace prior to Saturday's home doubleheader against Bryan. Wallace won 1,351 games before taking a leave of absence prior to the 2025 season while dealing with cancer. He retired announced his retirement April 25 and died in May.

"The retirement of No. 11 ensures that Coach Wallace’s influence remains a permanent fixture of SMC Athletics," said Megan Aiello, SMC's Athletic Director,  in a release earlier this year. "This gesture symbolizes our profound gratitude for a man who shaped not just players, but leaders."

* College of Charleston catcher Dylan Johnson threw out the 42nd would-be base-stealer of his career in Wednesday's game against Georgia Southern. That ties him with Erven Roper for most in program history.

* Paul Mainieri's 40-40 record at USC included a 9-0 start to the 2025 season, so he was nine games under .500 for his last 71 games.

* Claflin will participate in the CIAA Baseball Series Championship at Virginia State University May 5-9, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced.

The Panthers, coached by Jaylan Bledsoe, will be joined by Bluefield State, Lincoln (Pa.) and Virginia State.  The CIAA does not  have a league schedule for its member baseball teams, so they compete in other groups.

Claflin competes in the Peach Belt Conference, Lincoln is in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. Bluefield State is an independent and Virginia State plays in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.

Any team that advances to its respective conference tournament will not compete in the event.

Game times and other information will be announced later.
