Spartanburg Methodist College retired former coach Tim Wallace's No. 11 jersey Saturday in ceremonies prior to the Pioneers' doubleheader with Bryan.
Wallace won 1,351 games in a hall of fame career before he stepped down last year while battling cancer. He died last May.
Danny Kambel, SMC's assistant athletic director for sports communications, made the presentation.
"Today, Spartanburg Methodist College pays tribute to a man whose impact on this baseball program—and beyond—cannot be measured by wins alone.
"For more than three decades, Tim Wallace dedicated his life to building SMC Baseball into a program defined by toughness, discipline, and pride.
"In recognition of his playing career, he was inducted into the Wofford College Hall of Fame in 2000. His coaching accolades include induction into the SMC Hall of Honor in 2012 and the NJCAA Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2014.
"He finished his career with 1,351 wins—the fourth-most in junior college history. Under Coach Wallace, SMC won 11 Region 10 Championships.
"He was named Region 10 Coach of the Year eight times, earned the Louisville Slugger Coaches Award four times, and was an eight-time American Baseball Coaches Association Regional Coach of the Year. Eight players were named NJCAA All-Americans, and more than 150 signed professional baseball contracts.
"In recognition of his extraordinary service and enduring legacy, Spartanburg Methodist College is proud to officially retire number 11.
"From this day forward, No. 11 will no longer be worn in Pioneer baseball competition. It will stand permanently as a symbol of excellence, leadership, and the standard Coach Wallace established," Kambel's statement concluded."
