* Briefly: A five-run sixth gave USC Lancaster (16-12) the lead and the Lancers held on to beat Catawba Valley (18-13) ... Oakwood (2-17) scored two runs in the eighth inning and held on to take Game 1 of a doubleheader at Voorhees, but the Tigers (3-16) bounced to win the nightcap after allowing five runs in the first inning. Manuel Duran struck out nine in four innings of relief to get the win. Daren Drayton had two hits in each game for the Tigers ... Ethan Lay struck out 11 in eight shutout innings as Sacramento State (9-13) snapped Winthrop's (15-7) five-game winning streak. Corey Wouters doubled and Gage Handzel singled for the Eagles, who got their run on a wild pitch with two outs in the ninth.
* Beyond the border: Tristan Bissetta, a Mann High graduate and transfer from Clemson, homered twice and drove in three runs as Ole Miss took an SEC series opener against No. 15 Kentucky, 5-0. Bissetta is hitting .420 with 13 homers and 37 RBI in 23 games ... No. 20 LSU won an SEC series opener over No. 7 Oklahoma, 7-1.
