Team of the week, March 9-15: Coastal Carolina

Coastal Carolina (went 4-0)
(beat Wake Forest, went 3-0 at Appalachian State)

If Coastal Carolina was supposed to struggle while playing without several of its top pitchers, someone forgot the tell the Chanticleers.

Coastal staged late-inning rallies in all four games this week to go 4-0 and improve to 13-6. A seven-run sixth inning on Tuesday allowed the Chanticleers to snap Wake Forest's 15-game winning streak.

Over the weekend, Coastal went up in the eighth or ninth inning in all three games to sweep its opening Sun Belt Conference series at Appalachian State.

With Cameron Flukey and Hayden Johnson out for extended periods as they recover from injuries and Dominic Carbone out for the season after surgery, pitching coach Matt Williams has had to make some adjustments to compensate. There was some good news on Saturday, however, when Ryan Lynch was able to make his first appearance of season, allowing a hit in a shutout inning.

Up next: at Campbell, 6 p.m. Wednesday
