* Briefly: Three South Carolina (15-16, 2-8 SEC) pitchers struck out 12 in a win over No. 2 Texas (24-5, 7-3). A five-run second inning gave USC a comfortable working margin. Seven of Carolina's 11 hits were for extra bases. Talmadge LeCroy and Patrick Evans homered, and Will Craddock drove in two runs. Usual Gamecocks closer Alex Valentin started for the second straight game - he went an inning against Wofford on Tuesday - and allowed a run on five hits with five strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. Zach Russell (3-0) allowed a hit and struck out four in 2 1/3 innings and Alex Philpott struck out three in three 1-2-3 innings ... Luke Jones (2-1) allowed two hits in six shutout innings and No. 14 Coastal Carolina (22-7, 10-0 Sun Belt) manhandled South Alabama (18-12, 5-5) in a run-rule win to open the series.
