Jackson Mullin allowed two hits and a run over seven innings for the Stingers. Earlier in the day, Dalton Taylor pitched a six-hit shutout as USC Sumter run-ruled USC Salkehatchie (3-48). Jaxon Jean and Easton Thorpe homered for the Fire Ants. ... Braden Mauro had a three-run homer to highlight a five-run eighth inning in USC Lancaster's win over USC Union (30-23). The Lancers (23-27) fell to top-seeded Gaston College (52-3) later in the day.
* Conference Carolinas Tournament: Young Harris (37-15) scored six runs in the third inning and sent top seed North Greenville (43-9) into a losers' bracket game against Mount Olive on Saturday. Belmont Abbey (38-12) scored in its final five innings to overtake No. 2 seed Francis Marion (41-11). Myles Proffitt had a two-run homer in the ninth inning, but FMU left the potential tying run on base. Charlie Bussey III scored his 104th run of the season, breaking the previous NCAA Division II record. The Patriots play UNC Pembroke on Saturday ... Mount Olive (29-20) scored six runs in the first inning and eliminated Erskine (27-26). Carson Yates had three hits and scored twice for the Flying Fleet.
* Peach Belt Conference Tournament: Mason Salisbury drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth inning and Lander (32-18) survived an upset bid by Georgia College (22-26). Columbus State (28-20) rapped out 16 hits and scored the game's first 10 runs to send USC Aiken (35-16) into the losers' bracket against Georgia College. Lander, which has won 10 straight games, and Columbus State meet in the winners' bracket.
* South Atlantic Conference Tournament: Wingate (35-16) survived four home runs by Newberry (27-24) to take a first-round victory. Finn McLaughlin hit two homers and Nick Foster and Zach McClendon added one apiece for the Wolves, who play Carson-Newman in an elimination game Saturday ... A seven-run fourth put Catawba in charge in a first-round win over Coker (15-33). The Cobras meet Mars Hill in an elimination game on Saturday.
* Other: Kent Johnson had two hits and drove in four runs as Benedict (22-15) eliminated Albany State (28-18) from the SIAC Tournament. He drove in the Tigers' first two runs, then added a two-run homer in the ninth. Right fielder Curtis Lindsey made a pair of superb defensive plays to deny Albany State hitters. The Tigers play again Saturday, but a Friday night rainout will force some time changes ... Top-seeded Milligan (40-12) shut out Spartanburg Methodist (26-24) after the first inning to eliminate the Pioneers from the AAC Tournament.
