Former Greenville Red Sox manager diesMatt Sczesny, manager of the Greenville Red Sox of the Western Carolinas League in 1967-68, died Sunday in New York. He was 76. Sczesny was a Red Sox farmhand before he became a manager and later became a scout, signing such players as Mo Vaughn and Bob Stanley.
Winkelsas to speak
Joe Winkelsas will speak at the First Pitch Dinner for USC Salkehatchie baseball Jan. 29 in Allendale. Winkelsas, a former USCS pitcher, went on to pitch in the majors for the Braves and the Brewers. Limestone coach honored
Limestone College coach Chico Lombardo is being inducted into the Francis Marion athletic hall of fame. Lombardo was a two-time all-district baseball player for the Patriots.
