Jan. 31 game recaps

USC Beaufort sweeps Southern Wesleyan
USC Beaufort's debut as a baseball program resulted in a doubleheader sweep of Southern Wesleyan in Hardeeville.
  • Sand Sharks win 2

  • Indians drop pair
USC-Salkehatchie's season-opening twinbill didn't go as well. The Indians lost a pair to Walters State. USCS scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to force extra innings but Walters State, Baseball America's preseason pick to win the junior college national championship, scored four runs in the ninth and won the opener, 6-3. The Senators won the second game, 5-2.

I was impressed with the Indians yesterday as they face Walters State, the preseason #1 Junior College team by Baseball America.

The Indians have a stout pitching staff and I look for them to only improve as the season progresses.

The Indians have several key players on their roster, Oliver Santos-3rd how has an outstanding glove and bat. He along with teammate Branfy Arias are headed to Tusculum next season.

Mark Henderson-pitcher headed to USC Aiken.

Ali Williams-Pitcher headed to Charleston Southern

Along with many others, should be a great season for the Indians.
