More sad news for baseball

Several times over the past months I've expressed my frustration with being unable to get a copy of Morris College's baseball schedule. I've tried to keep it light, but I was growing increasingly frustrated.

In response to an e-mail inquiry about a scheduled Wednesday doubleheader with Morris being removed from the Voohees schedule, Voorhees coach Adrian West indicated Morris had canceled its season.

I don't know if its a one-year thing, or whether the program is being discontinued, but I certainly hope it's the former rather than the latter.

I've written before about my concern about the dwindling number of African-Americans in Major League Baseball, and losing another program at a Historically Black College/University would do nothing to reverse that trend.

I want kids of all people groups to be exposed to the great game of baseball. Seeing baseball as a way to get an education can serve as an inspiration to youngsters, no matter their background. Seeing someone they can identify with as a role model helps.
