Matt Vaughn missed Clemson's first 10 games while recovering from shoulder surgery. He made his first 2009 appearance in the ninth inning of Tuesday's 15-2 win over Michigan State and struck out two of the three batters he's faced. That's the form that earned him a spot on the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association's Stopper of the Year watch list prior to the season. Not to belittle other Clemson pitchers, but a healthy Vaughn might have been the difference in Clemson winning last Sunday's game at North Carolina or allowing two runs in the ninth to lose, which is what happened.
Chants' pitching shines
One game after scoring 36 runs against Stony Brook, Coastal Carolina was held to one eighth-inning run by Creighton. So what happens? Four Chanticleers pitchers combine for a seven-hit shutout.
Patriots' Walters honored
Francis Marion's David Walters was named Peach Belt Conference pitcher of the week after getting a win and a save in two appearances last week.
