A pretty good Friday

There were several top-notch performances across the state on Friday. A few of them:

* Bryan Altman's 11th-inning grand slam lifted The Citadel over SoCon favorite Elon in the series opener. The Bulldogs played extra innings for the fifth time in eight games this season.

* Newberry's Josh McElwee struck out 15 batters in 8 1/3 innings in a 13-2 rout of Carson-Newman in South Atlantic Conference play.

* USC Beaufort scored five runs in the ninth to turn back Edward Waters, 7-3.

* Five Coastal Carolina pitchers struck out 18 batters over 16 innings and allowed just four hits in wins of 12-0 over Albany (7 innings) and 9-0 over Stony Brook in the Caravelle Resort Classic.

* DeAngelo Mack hit his fourth home run in seven games and Nick Ebert followed Mack with a homer as South Carolina outslugged Long Beach State, 15-8.

By the way, I post links to game stories in the "More details" section of past games.
