Gators' recruit class ranked No. 1
Florida's incoming recruiting class is ranked No. 1 in the country by Collegiate Baseball. Clemson's class is ranked No. 27 and South Carolina's is No. 30. Clemson ranks No. 5 among six ACC teams and USC is No. 8 among 10 SEC teams in the top 40 (there was a tie for the last spot). College of Charleston is the only state team among the "other top recruiting classes."

  • Smoak goes homerless
    Former USC standout Justin Smoak went 0-for-3, but Team USA beat Chinese Taipei (Taiwan), 14-3, in a second-round World Cup game halted after seven innings because of the score. Former Vanderbilt standout Pedro Alvarez hit three homers for the USA. The United States plays Australia at 2 p.m. Friday.

  • Wolverines go to the beach
    Michigan, one of the most ambitious and competitive of the northern baseball programs, has two games against Coastal Carolina in the Caravelle Resort Classic in Myrtle Beach. The Wolverines, coached by former Greenville Braves player Rich Maloney, also play Ball State and Lipscomb in the tournament.
