Smoak named MVP, but misses record

Justin Smoak of the United States was named tournament most valuable player for the World Cup. The Lowcountry resident and former University of South Carolina star broke the tournament record of six home runs by hitting nine over the first two rounds. He failed to homer in four third-round games and was later passed by Cuba's Alfredo Despaigne, who finished with 11.
