Francis Marion holds blood drive
Members of the Francis Marion baseball team donated 40 units of blood at a recent blood drive.

    Black tops Garnet
    The Black topped the Garnet, 12-2, in the first game of the USC fall world series. Pitcher Blake Cooper struck out eight in four shutout innings. The Black team hit six home runs, including two by freshman Brison Celek. After the alumni game tonight, the series resumes Saturday.

  • USC gets two commitments
    TheBigSpur.com reports a pair of pitchers from the College of Southern Nevada, Bryan Harper and Donn Roach, have committed to USC for the 2010 recruiting class.

    Bryan Harper is the older brother of noted prospect Bryce Harper, who left high school after his sophomore year and is now enrolled at Southern Nevada.

    Bryan Harper played at Cal State Northridge last season, going 0-4 with a 6.68 ERA in 32 1/3 innings. He started six games and made 10 relief appearances. Harper allowed 46 hits, walked 22 and struck out 15.

    Roach was at Arizona, where he went 1-4 with one save and a 7.84 ERA in 41 1/3 innings. He was in 20 games -- seven as a starter. Roach walked 22 and struck out 22.

    Kansas State will play in The Citadel Memorial Challenge Feb. 19-21 and also play the Bulldogs Feb. 22, according to the Wildcats' 2010 schedule.
