  • Indians sign Buscher
The Cleveland Indians have given former USC infielder Brian Buscher a minor-league deal and invited him to spring training in 2010. Buscher had been with the Twins. I remember seeing Buscher make a great defensive play for USC at Spartanburg's Duncan Park to end the game and preserve a 5-4 win over Wofford in 2002. USC was clinging to the one-run lead, but Wofford had loaded the bases with one out. The Wofford batter hit a screaming grounder down the third-base line. Buscher made a diving stop, got up and and threw to first base for what I thought was the second out as the tying run scored. Apparently Buscher actually caught the ball and tagged third simultaneously, then got up and threw to first for a game-ending double play.
