The regular season wraps up for state NCAA Division I teams this weekend, and most of the squads have something tangible to play for:
Charleston Southern -- The Buccaneers, at home against High Point, must fare two games better than UNC Asheville -- or three better than Gardner-Webb -- to grab a spot in the Big South Conference Tournament. UNCA and GW play each other in Asheville, so CSU's odds aren't good.
Clemson -- They can still win the ACC Atlantic Division if they sweep a home series against Florida State. I'm not sure how the Tigers -- or their fans -- would react if the Seminoles end the suspense with a victory in Game One Thursday night.
Coastal Carolina -- There's no suspense in the Big South regular-season race, other than the Chanticleers' bid for a perfect season in league play. Losing a game or two at Radford on the Heels of a Tuesday loss to College of Charleston might loosen Coastal's grip on a national seed.
College of Charleston -- The Cougars can't do anything about their SoCon title hopes other than root for Georgia Southern to win two games against The Citadel. But winning two against non-conference foe UNC Wilmington could help CofC's at-large possibilities for the NCAA Tournament.
Furman -- The Paladins head to UNC Greensboro needing to win one more game against the Spartans than Wofford does at home against Appalachian State to make the SoCon Tournament.
Presbyterian -- They're ineligible for the Big South Tournament, but the Blue Hose could slip out of last place in the standings with a good series at VMI -- no easy task -- and a bad series by Charleston Southern.
South Carolina -- Before the season it looked like the Gamecocks' season-ending home series with Florida would decide the SEC East title. That's exactly how things have shaken out, with the overall SEC title an added incentive. Whoever wins two of three takes the prize.
The Citadel -- The Bulldogs head to Georgia Southern needing two wins to win the SoCon regular season title. But the Eagles are red-hot, having won their last 12 to resuscitate their postseason hopes.
USC Upstate -- The Spartans wrapped up their season Wednesday with a nice win over William & Mary.
Winthrop - The Eagles could finish from fourth to sixth in the Big South. Since Liberty is the foe, sixth seems more likely than fourth.
Wofford -- The Terriers can clinch the No. 8 berth in the SoCon Tournament by at least matching Furman's record this weekend.
