NCAA field announced

Coastal Carolina gets the No. 4 national seed and plays in a home regional with College of Charleston, N.C. State and Stony Brook. The Chanticleers open with Stony Brook

South Carolina, which likely played its way out of a national seed with its 0-2 SEC Tournament effort, plays in a home regional with Virginia Tech, The Citadel and Bucknell. USC opens with Bucknell.

Clemson gives the state five teams. The Tigers play in a region at Auburn with Jacksonville State and Southern Mississippi. Clemson opens with Southern Mississippi.

The Southern Conference -- deservedly in my opinion -- gets three bids, with Elon going to the Georgia Tech regional.

North Carolina receives a bid to a regional at Norman, Okla., despite not qualifying for the ACC Tournament.

There are eight teams apiece from the ACC, Pac-10 and SEC.
