    After leading the University of South Carolina to the NCAA Division I title, Ray Tanner has been named national coach of the year by Collegiate Baseball.

    Kendall Rogers of Yahoo.com writes about USC's relationship with Bayler Teal, a youngster from Bishopville who lost his battle with leukemia June 24 and was mentioned by Gamecocks coach Ray Tanner in his postgame comments. Two side notes: (1) A few Gamecocks fans in Rosenblatt Stadium started chanting Bayler's name as a rallying cry in extra innings. (2) While standing in line to buy tickets one day, I recognized Kendall and complimented him on his coverage of college baseball.

    Clemson's Kevin Brady, Mike Freeman, David Haselden, Brad Miller and Richie Shaffer were named to the Atlantic Coast Conference's All-Academic team for baseball.

    Very surprised Baseball America was the only poll that had Clemson at 10. Everyone else had them 4th

    That kind of slipped past me when I was compiling the polls. I know Clemson climbed to 10th in BA after not being ranked in its previous poll, but I agree it's strange a CWS team was ranked below eighth.
