Team USA wins again
The U.S. Collegiate National Team beat South Korea, 8-1, Thursday in Cary, N.C. No box has been posted and the live stats have disappeared, but I do know USC's Jackie Bradley had a walk and scored a run and Clemson's Brad Miller stole a base as a pinch-runner. The teams play at 7:15 p.m. Friday at Knights Castle near Fort Mill.

CPL National All-Stars set
The Coastal Plain League's national all-star squad for the July 20 game in Forest City, N.C., has been announced. Players from state schools include Mac Doyle and Konstantine Diamaduros of Wofford, Jake Williams of South Carolina, Chas Crane of Winthrop, Nick Orvin of The Citadel and Robert Jeroszko of College of Charleston.

  • East tops West in SCBL All-Star Game
    The East beat the West, 4-2, in the Southern Collegiate All-Star Game in Spartanburg Wednesday night. Anderson native Andrew Rash, a freshman at Virginia Tech, won the Home Run Derby associated with the event.

  • Calvi leaves Gamecocks for South Alabama
    Mark Calvi, whose work as pitching coach at the University of South Carolina was instrumental in the Gamecocks' winning the 2010 College World Series, will be introduced today as the head coach in waiting at South Alabama. He will replace Steve Kittrell, who is retiring after the 2011 season.

  • Branham gets first pro win
    Ex-USC Upstate star Matt Branham pitched four shutout innings Tuesday night to get his first professional victory in the Eugene Emeralds' 4-3 win over the Tri-City Dust Devils. He struck out six and walked one. In 17 innings, Branham has a 3.71 ERA and 1-2 record for the San Diego Padres Northwest League farm team.
