Jeroszko honored

Greenville resident Robert Jeroszko of Gastonia has been named the Coastal Plain League's pitcher of the week for the second consecutive week. Jeroszko is a junior at College of Charleston.

  • Cooper, Merrifield begin pro career

    Pitcher Blake Cooper, one of the heroes of South Carolina's College World Series championship, has agreed to terms with the Arizona Diamondbacks and been assigned to their Missoula (Mont.) Osprey Pioneer League team.

    Meanwhile, former USC outfielder Whit Merrifield is hitting .556 (5-for-9) after two games with the KC Royals' Burlington Bees team of the Class A Midwest League.

    Also, Former Clemson and Riverside High catcher John Nester has been assigned to the Vancouver Canadiens by the Oakland Athletics, ex-Clemson second baseman Mike Freeman has been assigned to the Diamondbacks' Yakima Bears farm team and former USC shortstop Bobby Haney has been assigned to the Arizona (rookie) League Giants by San Francisco.
