Easley's Pankake picks USC
TheBigSpur.com reports Easley High infielder Joey Pankake has given a verbal commitment to become part of the University of South Carolina's 2011 recruiting class. Earlier, Pankake had committed to College of Charleston.

    MLB.fanhouse.com predicts USC's Jackie Bradley Jr. will be the No. 6 pick in next June's Major League Draft. Clemson's Brad Miller is pegged as No. 16, Hanna High's Garrett Boulware is No. 64 and Shon Carson of Lake City is No. 67.

  • Woodward replaced
    Coastal Carolina's Scott Woodward was selected to play in the Cape Cod League All-Star Game at Fenway Park Wednesday, but had to withdraw because of a foot injury. His replacement will be Chanticleers teammate Daniel Bowman. Both are playing with the Bourne Braves, as is Chanticleers pitcher Anthony Meo. I could find no report on the severity of Woodward's injury.

  • Big South players honored
    Nineteen Presbyterian College baseball players were named to the Big South Conference's Presidential (academic) Honor Roll for 2009-10. Fifteen players from Coastal Carolina, 15 from Winthrop and 13 from Charleston Southern also were honored.
