The United States Collegiate National Team beat Sri Lanka, 15-0, in five innings today in the first round of the World University Championships in Tokyo.
USC's Jackie Bradley Jr. went 0-for-3, but scored a run and drove in the first U.S. run with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. He scored after reaching on an error.
Clemson's Brad Miller entered the game as a defensive replacement at second base in the top of the fifth, but did not get an at-bat before the game was halted.
Vanderbilt's Sonny Gray allowed one hit and struck out a tournament record 14 in five innings. He passed the 13 strikeouts by current Washington National Stephen Strasburg in 2008.
