Sorry for the lack of activity in the past few days. As I feared, my new responsibilities at my real job have cut into my blogging time. Here's some news:

Coastal facility on schedule

Construction on a hitting and practice facility for Coastal Carolina's baseball and softball programs is on schedule.

  • Players spurn pro deals

    The Courier-Journal of Louisville reports Easley native Taylor Black, the 28th round pick of the St. Louis Cardinals, spurned a pro offer and will return for his senior season at the University of Kentucky.

    Also, posters on a Citadel message board reported Mauldin's Joe Jackson decided to enroll at The Citadel instead of signing with the Kansas Royals. He was the team's 50th-round pick.

    USC fall roster offered

    TheBigSpur.com has posted a preliminary fall roster for USC. There don't appear to be any surprise departures from last season.

  • Spartanburg player picks Gamecocks

    TheBigSpur.com also reports that left-handed pitcher Hamilton Heatly of Spartanburg High has committed to USC for the class of 2012.

  • Tanner to be honored

    USC coach Ray Tanner will by honored by the Charleston RiverDogs prior to a Sept. 1 home game with the Greenville Drive at Joe Riley Park. Tanner will throw a ceremonial first pitch to the RiverDogs' DeAngelo Mack, an ex-Gamecocks star.

    Former USC player Phil Disher has been hired as an assistant coach at Wofford. Also, Jeremy Strack will serve as a volunteer coach for the Terriers.
